Job Details — PCU RN / Travel Nurse
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800 – $1,890 (competitive travel RN pay)
- Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 — Roanoke, Virginia nursing jobs / Blue Ridge Mountains
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
- Shift: Day shifts, 3x12-hour (06:45 – 19:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: RMH 8 West PCU (Progressive Care Unit) — Pulmonary & GI focus
- Patient Ratio: 1:5 (Adult & Geriatric patients)
- Charting / EMR: Epic experience required (Epic EMR)
- Weekend Coverage: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least 1 holiday during the contract
Job Requirements — PCU RN / Stepdown Nurse
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State) — Virginia nursing license preferred
- Minimum 1 year recent PCU / DOU / IMC / Stepdown experience
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS required
- Epic charting / Epic EMR experience required
- Hands-on skills: cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, IV therapy, phlebotomy
- Experience with blood product administration and central/peripheral line care
- Ability to provide respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, CPAP/BiPAP exposure helpful)
- Familiarity with rapid response / code teams and strict isolation precautions
- Willingness to float within skillset to other PCU or Med-Surg units as needed
- Previous charge nurse experience and Level I Trauma exposure preferred
Responsibilities — PCU Registered Nurse (Pulmonary/GI)
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the Progressive Care Unit with emphasis on Pulmonary and GI diagnoses
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize dysrhythmias, and respond to emergencies as a PCU RN
- Administer medications, manage drips (no titration), and safely administer blood products
- Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, and manage central and peripheral lines
- Provide respiratory support and manage non-invasive airway interventions (CPAP/BiPAP familiarity beneficial)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, and Social Services
- Utilize Epic EMR for accurate patient charting, documentation, and handoffs
- Maintain infection control practices and follow isolation precautions for patient safety
- Float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as required and work independently when CNA support is limited
