Travel ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights in Newport News, VA: 12-hour night shifts in a busy 20-bed Emergency Department (80–100 patients/day) at a Primary Stroke Center. Great opportunity for an experienced Emergency Department nurse and travel nurse looking to advance acute care skills on the Virginia Peninsula.

- Location: Newport News, VA 23602 (Virginia Peninsula healthcare job)
- Assignment Type: Travel nursing assignment / Travel Nurse (ER RN)
- Shift: 12-hour nights; every other weekend and holiday required
- Weekly Hours: 36
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 5/11/2026 – End: 8/8/2026)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,800 – $1,890 (competitive travel nurse pay; recruiter will confirm total package)
- Unit Details: 20-bed Emergency Department (15 monitor beds, 5 fast track rooms), Primary Stroke Center, Cath Lab available; staffed with ED nurses and techs
- Interview Required: No
- Note: No local candidates within 50 miles (seeking travel nurse candidates)
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (ED RN / Registered Nurse)
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department RN experience required (2+ years preferred for high-volume ER)
- Recent triage experience and strong ED assessment skills
- Willingness to serve as charge nurse as needed; demonstrated leadership in fast-paced ED preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI, and NIH (may obtain prior to start if not current)
- Dysrhythmia exam required at orientation (study guide provided)
Responsibilities / ER Nurse Duties
- Provide, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care for a diverse patient population in a high-volume Emergency Department
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, triage, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes
- Administer medications and treatments according to hospital policies and protocols
- Serve as a point of contact for patient care coordination across hospital departments and external agencies
- Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in quality improvement initiatives (stroke protocols, sepsis, etc.)
- Demonstrate leadership by assuming charge nurse responsibilities and supporting interdisciplinary ED teams
- Collaborate with EMS, law enforcement, Cath Lab, and other departments for timely patient care and disposition
- Manage the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing, including stabilization, crisis intervention, and disaster preparedness
- Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication with patients, families, and staff
