Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Travel Assignment | Springfield, IL

Seeking an experienced Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift travel assignment in Springfield, IL; 13-week contract. Join a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center delivering orthopedic post-op and trauma care.

Job Details – Orthopedic Travel Nurse (Springfield, IL)

  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (travel nursing assignment)
  • Start Date: May 11, 2026
  • Setting: 38-bed Orthopedic Unit (Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Facility)
  • Shifts: Night shifts, 3x12 hours per week (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,890 – $1,990
  • Location: Springfield, IL 62781 — Illinois nursing jobs, travel RN opportunity
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required to other Med Surg departments as needed
  • Scrub Color: Any solid color
  • Charting: Cerner EMR
  • Parking: Free with permit

Job Requirements – Orthopedic RN / Travel Nurse Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent orthopedic nursing experience (orthopedic nursing, post-op care, trauma nursing)
  • Active Illinois RN license (required at time of application)
  • BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI not accepted)
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Telemetry experience preferred
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs
  • Cerner charting experience preferred (experience with Cerner EMR enhances placement)
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred (travel RN, travel nurse)
  • Must be able to float to other Med Surg units as needed
  • Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment overlaps holiday periods

Responsibilities – Orthopedic Nursing Duties

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients recovering from orthopedic elective surgeries (total joint replacements, spine surgeries) and trauma-related interventions
  • Manage complex dressing changes, traction, bedside debridement, and long-term IV antibiotics
  • Utilize and manage specialized orthopedic equipment (slings, walkers, traction, casts, IV pumps, tube feeding pumps, PAS boot machines, vital sign monitors, vein finder)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (orthopedic surgeons, PT/OT, case management) to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Float to other Med Surg departments as required to meet facility needs
  • Document patient care using Cerner EMR and maintain accurate, timely charting
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards (Magnet-quality care, Level I trauma protocols)
