- Shift: 12-hour nights (Fri–Sun: 7:00pm – 7:30am)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 5/18/2026 – End: 8/17/2026)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,820 – $1,910
- Holiday Rotation: Yes
- No On-Call Required
- Patient Ratio: 1:5–7

- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics (18+ years)
Job Requirements
- Active Iowa RN license or Compact/Multistate license (required at time of submission)
- Minimum 15 months of recent or current psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience in a hospital setting
- Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations (18+ years)
- EPIC EMR experience (required) — experience with electronic health records preferred for mental health documentation
- BLS certification from AHA or American Red Cross (required)
- Acceptable de-escalation certificate (MAB, CPI, MOAB, or SAMA) preferred — can be obtained upon offer; crisis intervention and de-escalation skills important for psychiatric nursing
- Professional reference from a supervisor/manager within the last 24 months (preferred)
- Valid Driver’s License (required)
- Skills checklist specific to psychiatric or behavioral health nursing (required)
- First-time travel nurses are welcome — travel RN and psychiatric nursing positions encouraged
Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a 21-bed behavioral health unit
- Monitor, assess, and document patient progress and response to treatment using EPIC EMR
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (psychiatrists, social workers, therapists) to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies as needed to promote patient and staff safety
- Provide therapeutic, trauma-informed care consistent with best practices in mental health nursing
- Participate in holiday rotations and work three consecutive night shifts per week
- Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment on the psychiatric unit
