CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel RN) opportunity in Washington, DC 20010 — 13-week contract caring for post?op cardiac surgery and critically ill cardiac patients in a high-acuity Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. - Start Date: May 26, 2026
- End Date: August 25, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shifts: 3x12 or 4x12 hour rotating shifts (Day: 07:00-19:30, Night: 19:00-07:30)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,900 - $2,000
- Hours per Week: 36
- Schedule Notes: Every other weekend required; holidays as needed
- Float: Float to ICU and IMC required (ICU nurse flexibility preferred)
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Active DC RN license required (or proof of pending status at submission; license in hand prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU / Cardiac ICU experience caring for post-op cardiac and major vascular surgery patients
- Critical care / ICU travel nursing experience preferred
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (?80% overall, 100% on lethal rhythms)
- Experience with advanced cardiac modalities: ECMO, VAD, IABP, Cmag, CRRT, Swan-Ganz (PA) catheters, temporary pacing
- Strong ventilator management and titration of vasoactive/cardiac drips
- Ability to float to ICU and IMC units as needed; excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Two supervisor references required
Core Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients recovering from cardiac and major vascular surgeries
- Manage advanced cardiovascular equipment including VAD, Cmag, CRRT, Swan-Ganz PA catheters, pacing, IABP, and ECMO
- Perform arterial and central line care, ventilator management, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias; respond to emergencies using advanced critical care skills
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and adhere to infection prevention and unit protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT/OT, social work) to optimize cardiac ICU patient outcomes
- Participate in orientation and complete required facility/unit-specific competencies and modules within designated timeframes
- Provide compassionate support and clear communication to patients and families during critical care episodes
