Join a dedicated team as a Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) in Decatur, Illinois (62526). This travel nursing opportunity places you in an acute care hospital dialysis unit serving in a 2-room, 4-bed setting with an average daily census of 3–6 patients. Job Details – Travel Nurse | Dialysis RN
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,970 - $2,080
- Location: Decatur, IL 62526 (Travel nursing job in Illinois)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: May 4, 2026
- Shift: 4 x 10-hour day shifts (07:00 - 17:30) with 2–3 overnight calls per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; every third Saturday on call until Monday morning
- Unit: 2-room, 4-bed dialysis unit (acute care hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis)
- First-time travelers accepted: Orientation and unit support available for travel RNs and nephrology nurses
- Floating Requirement: Travel nurses may be required to float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed.
Please note: The client may call off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay for the cancelled hours. If more hours are cancelled, additional compensation will be provided as per contract terms.
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of acute care inpatient dialysis experience (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) required
- Active Illinois RN license required at time of application (compact license not accepted unless IL active)
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross)
- ACLS certification preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting/EHR preferred
- Clinical experience with acute renal failure, acute kidney injury (AKI), hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis
- Ability to respond to on-call emergencies within 1 hour
Responsibilities – Hemodialysis / Nephrology Nurse Duties
- Initiate and set up dialysis treatments, including AV fistula/graft cannulation and central/peritoneal catheter management
- Administer blood products and specialized medications during dialysis treatments
- Troubleshoot dialysis machine alarms (arterial pressure, venous pressure, blood leak detector, conductivity)
- Monitor patients for complications: hypotension, fluid overload, hyperkalemia, cardiac events, air embolus, muscle cramps, seizures, and intervene per protocol
- Provide post-treatment access care, dressing changes, and patient education on dialysis and renal disease
- Maintain infection control, airway management, and safety standards in acute care settings
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV team, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services) for comprehensive renal patient care
- Participate in the on-call rotation for emergent dialysis cases; document patient care accurately using Cerner
