Travel Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) – Mechanicsville, VA (13-week)

Job Details

• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (June 8, 2026 – September 5, 2026)
• Role: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse / Cardiac Stepdown Nurse (Travel RN)
• Setting: Cardiac Medical Stepdown Unit (24 beds) – telemetry experience preferred
• Shift: 12-hour days; required to work every other weekend and major holidays
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,020 – $2,130
• Location: Mechanicsville, Virginia 23116 — serving the Richmond area (Mechanicsville, VA travel nursing job)
• Travel Position: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius (travel nursing candidates welcome)

Job Requirements

• Active RN license in Virginia or a compact state (required for travel RN positions in Virginia)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience; acute care, telemetry, or stepdown/PCU experience strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide available) — strong EKG/telemetry interpretation skills preferred
• Proficiency in lab draws required
• Experience with cardiac drips, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring is a plus
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and care coordination skills for interdisciplinary teamwork
• Ability to work every other weekend and major holidays

Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness for PCU and cardiac stepdown patients
• Administer medications safely and accurately according to policies and protocols (including titratable cardiac drips)
• Monitor telemetry and bedside cardiac monitors; respond to changes in cardiac rhythm and patient condition
• Operate and manage equipment such as Alaris pumps, BiPAP, PCA, GlucoStabilizer, and bedside cardiac monitors
• Provide care for patients with cardiac, surgical, renal, and respiratory conditions, including BiPAP support and post-op stepdown care
• Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary teams and serve as a point-of-contact for care coordination and discharge planning
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and home care; advocate for patient safety and quality improvement
• Respond professionally and confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions and emergencies; participate in rapid response and code situations as needed
