Travel NICU Registered Nurse – Salem, Virginia | 13-Week Night Shift Assignment

Join a newly updated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Salem, Virginia, and provide compassionate care for critically ill newborns. This 13-week travel nurse opportunity offers advanced NICU experience, modern equipment, and close collaboration with an experienced neonatology team in the scenic Roanoke Valley near the Blue Ridge Mountains.

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12 Hour Nights
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800-$1,890
• Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
• Additional Details: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; ready for huddle at 6:45; may float to Birth Response/Stork Nurse as needed
• Unit Highlights: Newly opened NICU with updated equipment and strong collaboration with neonatologists

Job Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS and NRP certifications
• At least 1 year of NICU nursing experience
• Experience with IV insertion in preterm and term infants
• Ability to work independently with strong neonatal assessment skills
• Knowledge of signs and symptoms of declining health in preterm infants
• Comfort caring for critically ill newborns requiring vent support and CPAP
• Experience with UVC placement, surfactant administration, and needle decompression is highly valued
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach
• Breastfeeding support experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to newborns in the NICU
• Monitor infant condition and respond quickly to changes in status
• Assist with newborn resuscitation, intubation, and umbilical line placement
• Administer surfactant, TPN, lipids, and other ordered therapies
• Support respiratory care, including ventilator support and CPAP management
• Perform IV insertion, NG/OG feedings, and related bedside procedures
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary neonatal care team to promote safe, effective care
• Deliver compassionate family-centered support with courtesy and respect
• Contribute to a positive unit experience in a modern, well-equipped NICU
