Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of NICU nursing experience required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Virginia or compact license required at submission
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
  • RNC-NIC certification preferred
  • Experience with invasive and noninvasive ventilation
  • Experience with UAC/UVC maintenance and umbilical line care
  • Ability to support critically ill neonates with complex respiratory and developmental needs
  • Conscious sedation experience preferred
  • Ability to adapt to a team-based, high-acuity clinical environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, compassionate nursing care to neonates in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Monitor and manage patients with diagnoses such as prematurity, respiratory distress, infection/sepsis, NEC, PPHN, pneumothorax, and glucose instability
  • Support ventilator management and respiratory therapies, including HFNC, NIV, NIPPV, and HFOV
  • Perform and assist with special NICU procedures such as IV access and maintenance, chest tube care, thoracentesis, venous and arterial blood sampling, and surfactant administration
  • Maintain and care for UAC and UVC lines in accordance with unit standards
  • Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary care team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care
  • Float within scope to Pediatrics and the Well Baby Nursery as needed to support unit needs
  • Document patient care accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record
