Job Details

• Position: Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown
• Type: Travel nursing assignment
• Location: Petersburg, Virginia
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts
• Shifts Per Week: 3
• Hours Per Week: 36
• Contract Length: 16 weeks
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 - $2,130
• Schedule Notes: Expected to work every other weekend and holidays
• Float: May float to Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed

Job Requirements

• Active RN license in Virginia or compact state eligibility
• Minimum 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience required
• Experience in acute care, stepdown, progressive care, or telemetry strongly preferred
• BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification required
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Strong background in cardiac rhythm interpretation and early recognition of patient deterioration
• Experience with titratable cardiac drips preferred
• Ability to complete a dysrhythmia exam
• Comfort with chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, temporary pacing, and advanced respiratory support
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive, compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a stepdown setting
• Perform ongoing assessments and identify changes in patient condition quickly and accurately
• Monitor telemetry rhythms and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias and clinical deterioration
• Administer medications and manage titratable drips safely and in accordance with standards of practice
• Support patients requiring chest tubes, temporary pacing, conscious sedation, and hemodynamic monitoring
• Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate care and promote positive outcomes
• Educate patients and families to support recovery, understanding, and discharge readiness
• Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient care environment
• Adapt to a fast-paced PCU and stepdown unit with changing patient needs while maintaining professionalism and calm under pressure
