Overview

The Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse provides high-quality patient care using the nursing process, clinical judgment, and strong teamwork. In this travel RN role, you will care for post-operative and post-trauma patients, monitor telemetry rhythms, and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to support safe, efficient, patient-centered care in Petersburg, VA.

• Schedule: 12-hour day shifts
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Duration: 13-week assignment
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 - $2,130
• Unit Type: Med/Surg Telemetry
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
• Setting: Fast-paced mixed surgical unit with telemetry monitoring
• Schedule Expectations: Every other weekend and major holidays required

Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice or compact licensure
• Minimum 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience
• Minimum 1 year of travel RN experience
• Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
• BLS certification required
• Ability to pass an EKG exam at orientation
• Strong dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry monitoring skills
• Experience with EPIC preferred
• Ability to provide safe, compassionate care for adult and geriatric patients
• Comfort working in a high-acuity, team-oriented healthcare environment

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care
• Monitor telemetry rhythms and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with nursing standards
• Care for post-operative, post-trauma, and general surgery patients
• Manage patients with chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, trachs, and tube feeds as needed
• Collaborate with monitor techs, CNAs, charge nurses, and the rapid response team
• Float to other Med/Surg units when needed to support patient care needs
• Educate patients and families while promoting comfort, safety, and recovery
• Document accurately and maintain clear communication with the care team
• Support a culture of quality improvement, professionalism, and compassionate care
