Job Details

• Position: Med-Surg Registered Nurse (RN)
• Employment Type: Travel Contract
• Location: Madison, Wisconsin
• Start Date: 10/26/2026
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
• Float Requirement: May float to similar nursing units as needed
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,860 - $1,960
• Orientation: 12 hours
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
• Common Diagnoses: Post-operative surgical care, GI conditions, abdominal pain, bowel obstruction, pancreatitis, Crohn’s disease, and more

Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of Med-Surg or medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
• Experience managing a 1:5-6 patient ratio
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Previous charting system experience required
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills
• Ability to work nights and every other weekend
• Comfortable floating to similar inpatient nursing units when needed
• Experience with ports, IV therapy, telemetry, wound care, drains, and post-surgical care is highly valued

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to Med-Surg patients on a busy surgical care unit
• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition throughout the shift
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments in accordance with best practices
• Support patients recovering from a variety of surgical procedures and complex medical conditions
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, phlebotomy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary team members
• Document patient care accurately in the charting system
• Manage telemetry, wound care, drains, and other routine Med-Surg interventions as needed
• Maintain patient safety, infection control, and effective communication at all times
• Adapt quickly to changing unit needs and float assignments
