• Schedule: Three 12-hour day shifts per week, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Patient Population: Neonates, infants, and adults
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 2 patients per nurse
• Unit Details: 10-bed Labor & Delivery unit with fluctuating daily census
• Additional Scheduling: Variable weekend coverage and some holiday shifts may be required; float support to Antepartum
• Orientation: 36 hours

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; pending license may be accepted at submission but must be active before the start date
• At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and NIHSS certifications required
• AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, and Fetal Heart Monitoring certifications preferred
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical record charting preferred
• Strong experience caring for obstetric patients in triage, antepartum, labor, and cesarean delivery settings
• Availability to meet travel nursing assignment compliance and time-off requirements

Labor & Delivery Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive registered nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate recovery
• Triage obstetrical patients and assess antepartum conditions, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and other high-risk concerns
• Monitor and interpret external and internal fetal heart patterns, including use of an IUPC when indicated
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, cesarean sections, and delivery-room procedures
• Circulate for C-sections and support neonatal transition, including APGAR assessment and thermoregulation
• Administer and monitor medications and therapies such as oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, antihypertensives, terbutaline, and epidural anesthesia
• Manage IV access, infusion pumps, blood and blood products, pain management, and emergency interventions
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, hemorrhage, shock, and postpartum complications
• Provide breastfeeding and lactation support, patient education, infant identification, and safety banding
• Document care accurately in the electronic medical record and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
