Join a collaborative post-anesthesia care team as a PACU Registered Nurse (RN) on a 13-week travel nursing assignment in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced PACU nurse who provides safe, high-quality care to patients from pediatrics through geriatrics in a 16-bed post-anesthesia care unit supporting a broad range of surgical specialties. Located in Prince George’s County, Upper Marlboro offers a welcoming suburban setting with convenient access to Washington, D.C., local parks, cultural attractions, and the greater Maryland region.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Upper Marlboro, Maryland
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,850–$1,950
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 3 shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating day and night shifts
• Typical Shift Times: Days approximately 7:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; nights approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:00/8:00 a.m.
• Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics
• Unit: 16-bed PACU with a daily census of approximately 15–20 patients
• Weekend Coverage: Approximately every other weekend
• Holidays: Required as scheduled
• Orientation: 72 hours
• Scrub Color: Navy blue

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Maryland or Compact Registered Nurse license at the time of submission
• At least 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience
• First-time travelers may be considered with 3–5 years of strong PACU experience and at least 2 years of ICU experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications; AHA certification is required for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Current CPI certification, as required for compliance
• Experience caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Ability to manage a 1:4 patient ratio in a fast-paced post-anesthesia care environment
• Strong patient assessment, airway management, medication administration, and clinical prioritization skills
• Willingness to float within scope, including rotating with pre-operative services and to a sister facility as needed
• Comfort with rotating day and night shifts, weekend coverage, and holidays as scheduled

PACU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia care for patients recovering from surgical and procedural interventions
• Monitor airway, respiratory, neurologic, cardiovascular, and pain status throughout the post-operative recovery process
• Care for patients following orthopedic, neurologic, cardiothoracic, vascular, general, thoracic, urologic, and gynecologic procedures
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, respiratory compromise, bleeding, and hemodynamic instability
• Manage ventilated patients, airway devices, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, drains, IV therapies, and emergency medications as appropriate
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation, analgesics, reversal agents, nerve blocks, and other post-operative medications
• Perform pain assessments, circulation checks, medication reconciliation, discharge education, and follow-up communication
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Complete accurate documentation in Epic and communicate handoff information to receiving care teams
• Maintain patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards in the PACU environment
