Travel Operating Room RN opportunity in Springfield, Illinois, for an experienced perioperative nurse ready to work in a high-acuity, Level I trauma environment. This travel nursing assignment is ideal for an Operating Room Registered Nurse confident supporting complex general, trauma, orthopedic, neurologic, urologic, plastic surgery, transplant, and bariatric procedures. Join a collaborative surgical team serving adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients across 23 operating rooms.

Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,200–$2,320
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Healthcare Setting: Acute care hospital; Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility
- Location: Springfield, Illinois
- Start Date: November 23, 2026
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, through February 22, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour day shifts, Friday through Sunday, approximately 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Weekend coverage required; approximately one weekend shift per month noted in scheduling details
- Call: Approximately one call shift per week, based on department needs
- Orientation: 40 hours, including virtual pre-start modules
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience preferred
- Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- Additional Details: Scrubs provided; complimentary parking permit available
- Travel Requirement: Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
Operating Room RN Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of recent Operating Room RN experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Active Illinois RN license in hand or documented Illinois licensure application in process, as applicable
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- CNOR certification required
- Level I trauma experience required
- Strong general operating room and trauma nursing experience required
- Experience supporting all major surgical service lines except cardiovascular procedures
- Demonstrated competency with complex bariatric, general surgery, neurology, orthopedic, plastic surgery, transplant, urology, and trauma cases
- Proficiency with infection prevention, specimen handling, universal protocol, blood product administration, radiation safety, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia response, and code response
- Experience with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic light sources and cords, and Hana tables
- Ability to float within the nurse’s competency and support hospital needs when necessary
Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care throughout the surgical continuum
- Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies for scheduled and emergent procedures
- Scrub and circulate for a broad range of complex surgical cases, including appendectomies, cholecystectomies, colon resections, hernia repairs, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, Whipple procedures, cystoscopies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, and organ donation cases
- Support orthopedic and neurologic procedures such as arthroscopy, fracture repair, cervical and lumbar fusions, craniotomies, and laminectomy or discectomy procedures
- Assist with trauma cases involving amputations, gunshot or stab wounds, and multiple-injury motor vehicle accidents
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards, surgical counts, specimen labeling, time-out procedures, and patient safety protocols
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergencies, including malignant hyperthermia, fire events, latex allergies, blood product reactions, and code situations
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary support teams to promote efficient, high-quality patient care
- Provide compassionate care to patients and families while advocating for safety, dignity, and positive surgical outcomes
