Outpatient Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience in an ambulatory or outpatient nursing setting
• Recent experience providing in-person triage and direct patient care for acute and chronic conditions
• Experience with telephone triage and telephone-based clinical assessment techniques
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and patient education skills
• General medical, gastrointestinal surgical, endocrinology, diabetes, or medical specialty experience preferred
• Experience administering injectable medications and providing medication-teaching visits preferred
• Experience with continuous glucose monitor placement and education, insulin therapy management, or self-management education preferred

Outpatient RN Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive in-person and telephone triage for patients with acute and chronic conditions
• Provide direct nursing care in an ambulatory outpatient environment
• Assess patient symptoms, identify changes in condition, and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
• Conduct nursing visits and reinforce individualized treatment plans
• Administer medications and injections safely according to established protocols
• Educate patients and families on medications, disease management, and self-care strategies
• Support diabetes and endocrinology care, including continuous glucose monitor education and insulin therapy management when applicable
• Collaborate with providers and multidisciplinary care teams to promote safe, timely, and high-quality patient outcomes
