Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Contract in Portland, Oregon

Join a collaborative medical-surgical nursing team in Portland, Oregon, as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) and provide high-quality care to adult and geriatric patients during a 13-week night shift contract. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,790–$1,880 per week
• Location: Portland, Oregon 97225
• Healthcare Setting: Short-term acute care; medical-surgical unit
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Contract End Date: January 25, 2027
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Nursing Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend, including Friday and Saturday nights
• Call: Not required
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Typical Patient Assignment: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Charting: Electronic health record documentation; Epic experience is beneficial
• Floating: May be required within medical-surgical units or at nearby partner facilities based on patient-care needs

Med/Surg RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Oregon; a qualifying compact license must be in hand when applicable
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Recent experience caring for adult and geriatric patients in an acute care environment
• Demonstrated electronic health record experience; Epic experience is beneficial
• Ability to manage a typical 1:4 patient ratio and adapt to changing patient-care needs
• First-time travel nurses are welcome with the required clinical experience
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to the assigned work location or nearby sites if floating is required
• Availability to work every other Friday and Saturday night, as well as assigned holiday coverage
• Two professional references covering at least 1 year of experience within the last 3 years

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients during overnight shifts
• Complete patient assessments, develop and update individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses
• Monitor telemetry, recognize changes in patient condition, and promptly escalate concerns to the appropriate care team
• Manage IV therapy, central lines, PICC lines, blood products, insulin and heparin protocols, and continuous bladder irrigation as indicated
• Provide wound, wound-vac, surgical drain, chest tube, tracheostomy, feeding tube, colostomy, and ileostomy care
• Support patients with respiratory needs, including oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and oral suctioning
• Apply isolation precautions and infection-prevention practices consistently
• Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, pharmacy, respiratory services, rehabilitation, imaging, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Educate patients and families, coordinate transitions of care, and document accurately in the electronic health record
• Float to other medical-surgical units or nearby partner facilities when needed while maintaining high standards of patient care
