Travel Med-Surg Registered Nurse needed in Amarillo, Texas for a 13-week inpatient nursing contract caring for adult and geriatric patients on a collaborative medical-surgical unit. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,460–$1,540
- Location: Amarillo, Texas
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 11, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Healthcare Setting: 10-bed inpatient medical-surgical unit
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratio: 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Charting System: Epic EMR
- Unit Support: Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, and Unit Secretary
- Orientation: 20 hours; required onboarding items and labs must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
Med-Surg Registered Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a compact state, in hand at the time of submission
- At least 1 year of recent inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience
- Recent Epic EMR experience within the past 6 months
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience providing care at a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Competency with isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE), nasal cannula therapy, non-invasive airway management, and peripheral line care
- Ability to float to units of equal or lesser acuity as needed
- Comfort working night shifts and caring for adult and geriatric patients
Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients
- Assess patient conditions, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate outcomes
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
- Monitor patient status, recognize changes in condition, and communicate concerns promptly
- Perform peripheral line care and management, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway management
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in Epic
- Follow infection prevention, isolation, and PPE protocols
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to support positive patient outcomes
- Provide patient education and emotional support to patients and families
- Maintain a safe, organized, and patient-centered medical-surgical environment
