LTAC Registered Nurse Job Details

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
• Minimum of two years of bedside clinical nursing experience
• Previous Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Ability to work night shifts and collaborate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team

LTAC Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive nursing assessments for medically complex patients within established admission timeframes.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process and evidence-based nursing practices.
• Monitor patient status, recognize changes in condition, and communicate significant findings promptly.
• Support patient rehabilitation goals and provide health education to patients, families, and caregivers.
• Initiate discharge planning from admission and coordinate patient and caregiver teaching to support safe transitions of care.
• Document nursing assessments, interventions, outcomes, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner.
• Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and promote continuity of care across disciplines and shifts.
• Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel.
• Promote patient and staff safety by following infection prevention, safe patient handling, and facility policies.
• Prioritize patient care, manage time effectively, and help maintain a positive, collaborative LTAC unit environment.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities after orientation when requested and continue professional development through education and self-study.
