Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
- Location: Petersburg, Virginia
- Healthcare Setting: On-site Emergency Department
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
- End Date: January 11, 2027
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts
- Schedule: 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.; every other weekend and one major holiday required
- Department Profile: Busy 32-bed Emergency Department with additional recliner and flex-bed capacity, serving patients of all ages with a broad range of medical and traumatic conditions
- Typical Assignment: Approximately 1 RN to 4–5 patients, based on department needs

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license
- At least 1 year of RN experience required
- Recent Emergency Department, Emergency Room, or critical care nursing experience strongly preferred
- Experience in a large Emergency Department or trauma center strongly preferred
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and CPI de-escalation training required
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records strongly preferred, with recent experience within the last year
- Successful completion of an EKG examination during orientation
- Copy of nursing diploma required
- Ability to provide emergency nursing care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
- Applicants must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the assignment location
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and decisive in high-stress situations
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments, triage patients, and prioritize care according to acuity
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process
- Provide evidence-based emergency nursing care for medical illness, trauma, stroke alerts, cardiac emergencies, behavioral health concerns, and other urgent conditions
- Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with clinical standards and applicable policies
- Support stabilization, resuscitation, crisis intervention, and life- and limb-saving interventions
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and revise care plans as patient conditions change
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS, specialty teams, social services, law enforcement, and outside agencies to coordinate care and transfers
- Educate patients and families while providing compassionate, culturally responsive care
- Safely operate emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, rapid infusers, ultrasound, EKG machines, and patient-warming devices
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team and contribute to patient safety and quality-improvement initiatives
- Protect patient privacy, follow infection-control practices, and use appropriate personal protective equipment
- Recognize changing priorities quickly and adapt care delivery in a high-volume emergency environment
Work Environment & Location
- Fast-paced Emergency Department environment with frequent interruptions, fluctuating workloads, and high-acuity patient needs
- Exposure to trauma, infectious materials, bodily fluids, alarms, and other emergency department conditions
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering patients and equipment
- Strong support from nursing assistants, unit support staff, and other members of the care team
