Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Texas
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; Progressive Care Unit experience is strongly preferred
• Recent experience caring for progressive care, telemetry, medical-surgical, or post-operative patients
• Current BLS certification
• Current ACLS or ALS certification
• Strong time-management, prioritization, clinical judgment, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to provide safe, compassionate nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Adaptable team player with a positive attitude and strong communication skills
• Willingness to float to medical-surgical, medical-surgical PCU, and emergency department holding areas as needed

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to PCU patients with complex medical and post-operative needs.
• Monitor telemetry, assess patient status, and recognize changes in condition while escalating concerns promptly.
• Care for patients with tracheostomies, laryngectomies, chest tubes, ostomies, PEG tubes, NG tubes, Foley catheters, and various drains.
• Support patients recovering from bowel resections, ileostomy or colostomy procedures, pulmonary surgeries, bronchoscopy, lobectomy, thoracoscopy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and neck dissection.
• Manage routine care for JP, biliary, abdominal, and chest tube drains, as well as TPN and tube feeds.
• Complete admissions, nursing assessments, medication administration, reassessments, and required documentation during each shift.
• Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration, including daily multidisciplinary rounds.
• Promote patient hygiene, oral care, mobility, communication, safety, and overall comfort.
• Follow infection-prevention practices related to C. difficile, CAUTI, CLABSI, and surgical-site infection prevention.
• Apply colorectal-care order sets and pre-operative and post-operative checklists as appropriate.
