Work with a high-acuity PCU team caring for patients who require close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. This on-site travel nursing assignment features a typical 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio and supports patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and post-procedural needs. Located in southeast Cincinnati, the 45255 area offers a welcoming community, convenient access to parks and outdoor recreation, and the cultural and dining attractions of the greater Cincinnati region.

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the working state or eligibility through a compact license
  • Minimum 2 years of registered nursing experience, including acute-care hospital experience
  • Progressive care, stepdown, telemetry, or comparable high-acuity nursing experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination
  • Experience caring for post-cardiac catheterization patients is strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage cardiac drips, including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, furosemide, milrinone, and heparin
  • Knowledge of chest tubes, central lines, Foley catheters, TR bands, groin management, and advanced oxygen therapies
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and patient advocacy skills
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in rapidly changing clinical situations

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of PCU patients and identify changing clinical priorities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process
  • Provide safe medication administration and monitor patients for treatment effectiveness and adverse responses
  • Care for patients with complex cardiac conditions, multisystem complications, and post-procedural needs
  • Monitor patients receiving cardiac infusions, hemodynamic monitoring, temporary pacing, and other advanced therapies
  • Manage patients with chest tubes, central lines, TR bands, groin access sites, and urinary catheters
  • Provide and monitor advanced respiratory support, including high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
  • Recognize dysrhythmias and signs of clinical deterioration, escalating care promptly when indicated
  • Coordinate care with providers, patient care technicians, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Educate patients and support persons regarding conditions, treatments, medications, and discharge needs
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, dignity, and evidence-based nursing practice
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record and communicate effectively during handoffs
