Travel Registered Nurse needed for a 13-week Med/Surg Tele contract in Chesapeake, Virginia, caring for adult and geriatric post-surgical patients on night shift.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
• Assignment Type: 13-week Registered Nurse travel contract
• Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Unit: Med/Surg Tele, post-surgical unit
• Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
• Schedule Options: Three or four 12-hour shifts per week; preferred schedule must be identified during submission
• Average Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Overtime: Available after 48 hours for four-shift schedules
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Two of the three winter holidays during the assignment
• Typical Patient Ratio: 1:7
• Orientation: 24 hours, including required pre-start learning modules

Med/Surg Tele Registered Nurse Requirements

• At least two years of recent, relevant Med/Surg Tele or post-surgical nursing experience
• Active Virginia or compact Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Recent experience with Epic electronic medical records
• Strong telemetry knowledge and the ability to interpret dysrhythmias and complete interval measurements
• Successful completion of the required telemetry assessment with a score of at least 80% on the first attempt
• Experience caring for patients with urologic and gynecologic surgical diagnoses is highly valued
• Comfort managing a 1:7 patient ratio and participating in shared weekend scheduling
• Competence with IV therapy, central and PICC line care, blood products, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols, surgical drains, wound care, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, and telemetry monitoring
• Must be able to meet assignment compliance, screening, and fit-testing requirements
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location to be considered for this Registered Nurse travel position

Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric patients recovering from high-volume surgical procedures
• Monitor cardiac rhythms through on-unit and remote telemetry systems and promptly identify changes in patient status
• Perform comprehensive assessments, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses to treatment
• Manage continuous bladder irrigation and other post-operative interventions
• Care for central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound vacuums, and tracheostomies as indicated
• Apply appropriate isolation precautions and collaborate with rapid response teams when necessary
• Coordinate care with physicians, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, IV teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Provide patient and family education related to recovery, medications, procedures, and discharge planning
• Float and work weekends and holidays as required by the assignment schedule
