PCU Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or eligibility under a compact nursing license
• At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience required
• Acute-care hospital experience preferred; PCU, progressive care, stepdown, or critical-care nursing experience strongly valued
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before providing direct patient care through an approved provider
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required in accordance with applicable unit requirements
• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Ability to provide safe, culturally responsive, patient- and family-centered care
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing nursing assessments, analyze findings, and prioritize patient needs
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional standards and approved policies
• Care for patients experiencing multisystem organ failure, multisystem trauma, complex medical conditions, and rapidly changing clinical status
• Use evidence-based clinical judgment to recognize patient deterioration and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Monitor patients through hemodynamic assessment and advanced respiratory modalities
• Manage patients with chest tubes and support temporary or transvenous pacing when within scope and competency
• Administer conscious sedation and monitor patient responses as assigned
• Coordinate care across hospital departments and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and nursing team members regarding treatment plans, recovery, and health-management needs
• Advocate for patient preferences, safety, privacy, dignity, and quality-of-life goals
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record and evaluate treatment effectiveness
• Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, professional development, and ongoing clinical education

PCU Work Environment

• Fast-paced progressive care setting with periods of high stress, frequent interruptions, and changing workloads
• Regular interaction with patients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members
• May require lifting, repositioning, pushing, and pulling patients or equipment, including loads up to 100 pounds with assistance as appropriate
• Requires safe use of personal protective equipment and adherence to infection-prevention and universal-precaution practices
