Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Virginia
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; 2 or more years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred
• Current BLS certification
• Current NIH certification
• HWC certification; this certification may be available onsite
• Professional, adaptable, and patient-centered approach to care
• Ability to provide bedside nursing care to patients across a broad age range in an acute-care setting
• Travel assignment eligibility, including applicable distance requirements

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to Medical-Surgical patients throughout each shift
• Perform patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Monitor patient conditions, identify changes in status, and communicate concerns promptly
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support effective treatment plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in Meditech
• Support unit operations by floating, participating in call coverage, and working weekend shifts as needed
