Position Overview

Join a high-acuity cardiac catheterization team as a travel Registered Nurse (RN) in Springfield, Illinois. This 13-week Cath Lab nursing assignment offers experienced cardiovascular nurses the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients in an acute-care, Level I trauma setting while supporting diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,430–$2,550
  • Location: Springfield, Illinois
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: October 19, 2026
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour day shifts
  • Shift Hours: 6:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)
  • Healthcare Setting: Acute-care, Level I trauma center
  • Unit Profile: Five-room procedural unit with an average daily census of approximately 25 patients
  • Weekend Commitment: Approximately 2–3 weekend shifts during the assignment
  • Call: Required as needed
  • Floating: May be required within the nurse’s scope of practice to support patient-care needs
  • Orientation: 36 hours, including virtual pre-start requirements

Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, active and in hand at the time of submission
  • At least 1 year of recent cardiac catheterization, CVOR, or cardiovascular procedural nursing experience
  • Experience in interventional and diagnostic cardiac catheterization
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Clinical experience with adult diagnostic catheterizations, interventional catheterizations, left and right heart catheterizations, and pulmonary artery line or Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring experience
  • Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
  • Strong assessment, communication, prioritization, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced cardiac procedural environment

Cardiac Catheterization Lab Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients before, during, and after cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Circulate for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures in the Cath Lab
  • Prepare patients, verify procedure readiness, and monitor responses throughout the episode of care
  • Administer and monitor procedural sedation in accordance with established standards and protocols
  • Recognize, interpret, and respond to dysrhythmias and changes in patient condition
  • Support left and right heart catheterization procedures and pulmonary artery line or Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, physicians, nurses, rapid response teams, and interdisciplinary staff to promote efficient patient flow and positive outcomes
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Cerner
  • Participate in call coverage, weekend scheduling, and in-scope floating as needed
