Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Position: Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing assignment
  • Location: Charleston, West Virginia
  • Start Date: October 29, 2026
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour day shifts, generally 6:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m.
  • Healthcare Setting: Large short-term acute care hospital; Level IV trauma and major teaching environment
  • Average Daily Surgical Volume: Approximately 22 cases
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
  • Orientation: 16 hours
  • Openings: 2

Operating Room RN Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of professional Registered Nurse experience
  • At least 1 year of recent operating room or perioperative nursing experience
  • Required cardiovascular/cardiothoracic and general surgery experience
  • Recent experience working as both a scrub and circulating RN in the operating room
  • Proficiency with cardiac, vascular, thoracic, general, orthopedic, ENT, urology, robotic, and gynecologic procedures
  • Current Registered Nurse license in West Virginia or a valid Compact RN license; candidates with a pending license may be considered for submission
  • Current BLS certification
  • Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • First-time travel nurses may be considered if all clinical experience requirements are met

Operating Room RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care throughout the perioperative experience
  • Function independently as both a scrub RN and circulating RN
  • Prepare operating rooms, verify equipment and supplies, and maintain sterile technique
  • Support complex cardiac, vascular, thoracic, general, robotic, orthopedic, ENT, urologic, and gynecologic procedures
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Complete accurate clinical documentation and medication or supply management using Cerner and related systems
  • Promote patient safety through surgical checklists, specimen handling, positioning, counts, and infection prevention practices
  • Respond appropriately to changing patient and procedural needs in a high-volume operating room

Schedule and Call Expectations

  • Work three 12-hour day shifts per week for a total of 36 guaranteed hours
  • Weekend participation is required, including approximately 1–2 weekend call assignments during a typical 4–5 week schedule
  • One call day per week is expected, with weekend and holiday call coverage scheduled in rotation
  • When on call, a 30-minute response time is required
  • Sunday through Friday overnight call is generally covered by staff, with traveler coverage needed when applicable for staffing or schedule gaps
