PCU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Nurse Job – 13-Week Contract in Austin, Texas

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Austin, Texas
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,460-$1,540
• Start Date: August 31, 2026
• End Date: November 30, 2026
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, approximately 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Approximately four weekend shifts per month; Friday and Saturday nights are considered weekend shifts
• Unit Environment: Cardiac surgical and medical PCU with 52 PCU beds, a 6-bed IMC area, and a 14-bed CVICU
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 RN to 5 patients
• Documentation: Meditech electronic medical record (EMR)
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; fleece jackets are not permitted

PCU Travel Nurse Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Texas
• At least 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience, including progressive care or cardiac nursing
• Strong cardiology nursing experience with open-heart patients, heart failure, post-cardiac catheterization patients, and valve patients
• Progressive care nursing skills, including telemetry monitoring and management of higher-acuity cardiac patients
• Experience with or willingness to care for patients following Watchman procedures, electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker placement, ablations, open-heart surgery, and LVAD placement or readmission
• Meditech proficiency preferred
• LVAD nursing experience preferred
• Ability to follow PCU standards of care, unit policies, and patient safety practices
• Team-oriented approach with a willingness to support fellow RNs and patient care technicians
• Flexibility to remain available until 4:00 a.m. when placed on call by the house supervisor or to float within the health system when appropriate skills are verified

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult cardiac surgical and medical PCU patients
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients with complex cardiac conditions, including heart failure, post-cath recovery needs, valve disease, and post-open-heart surgical care
• Monitor telemetry, remote cardiac monitoring, vital signs, blood glucose, and other relevant clinical indicators
• Care for patients following cardioversions, thoracentesis, electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker placement, ablations, Watchman procedures, and LVAD-related care
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the multidisciplinary care team
• Administer medications and treatments, complete accurate nursing assessments, and document care in Meditech
• Maintain a strong focus on fall prevention, skin integrity, pressure injury prevention, and patient safety
• Collaborate with patient care technicians, charge nurses, providers, and support services to promote efficient, compassionate care
• Participate in unit-based teamwork, patient education, discharge planning, and continuity of care
