LTAC Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Iowa
- At least two years of bedside clinical nursing experience
- Recent critical care nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
- Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and prioritization skills
- Ability to work effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
LTAC RN Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive nursing assessments within eight hours of admission and develop individualized plans of care.
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Support patients’ medical, functional, educational, and rehabilitation goals through a positive and encouraging approach.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate pertinent information to the appropriate care team members.
- Document assessments, nursing interventions, patient responses, and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and provide meaningful updates regarding patient status and care needs.
- Initiate discharge planning and provide patient and family education to support a safe transition of care.
- Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel.
- Promote patient and staff safety by following infection prevention, safe handling, environmental safety, and facility policies.
- Prioritize daily activities, use resources effectively, and collaborate with nursing leadership to support quality patient outcomes.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities after orientation when requested and pursue ongoing professional development.
