Travel RN Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,160–$2,270

• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Population: Adults
• Typical Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2, with occasional 1:3 assignments during transitions of care
• Charting: Epic
• Float Expectations: May float within scope to other intensive care and progressive care units
• Call: Not required
• Schedule: Block scheduling is available; schedule requests are considered based on unit coverage and skill mix

CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent specialty experience, with 3 years of cardiac ICU experience strongly required for this high-acuity unit
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Connecticut licensure or eligibility is required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Recent experience with pulmonary artery catheter and Swan-Ganz monitoring required
• Strong cardiac critical-care experience, including post-CABG, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, transplant, and VAD patients
• Demonstrated proficiency with Epic or a comparable electronic health record
• Travel nursing experience is not required for qualified critical-care nurses

Cardiac ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery patients
• Monitor and interpret complex hemodynamic data, including arterial lines, CVP, and pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz catheters
• Manage ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow oxygen, fresh tracheostomies, and airway suctioning
• Titrate vasoactive, cardiac, sedative, paralytic, insulin, and other continuous intravenous medications according to protocol
• Care for patients requiring IABP, Impella, CentriMag, VAD, and other advanced cardiac support equipment
• Provide postoperative care for CABG, valve repair or replacement, cardiac catheterization, TAVR, aneurysm repair, transplant, and other complex procedures
• Assess and manage dysrhythmias, acute stroke or CVA symptoms, renal failure, and other critical-care conditions
• Assist with procedures such as chest tube management, bronchoscopy, sheath removal, and epicardial pacing wire care
• Administer blood products, perform 12-lead ECGs, manage central and PICC lines, and maintain infection-prevention standards
• Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Float to designated critical-care and progressive-care areas when needed while maintaining safe, high-quality care
