- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Healthcare Setting: High-acuity, fast-paced 19-bed PCU with stable ventilator patients, non-invasive ventilation, and high-flow oxygen support
- Orientation: 24 hours
Progressive Care Travel Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit, stepdown, intermediate care, or comparable acute care nursing experience
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing; compact or applicable state licensure must be active and available at the time of submission
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- Recent experience with electronic medical record documentation, including EPIC
- Demonstrated competency with telemetry, ventilated patients, and conscious sedation
- Ability to float to units with equivalent or lower acuity when needed
- Graduation from an appropriately accredited nursing program
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a progressive care and stepdown environment
- Monitor patients requiring telemetry, ventilator support, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and heated high-flow oxygen
- Assess and manage patients with complex diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, respiratory failure, stroke, myocardial infarction, renal failure, liver failure, overdose, and diabetic ketoacidosis
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition promptly
- Manage central and peripheral lines, heparin protocols, insulin infusions, cardiac drips, and vasoactive medications according to unit protocols
- Participate in rapid response and code team activities as appropriate
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, care planning, and accurate documentation in EPIC
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and other members of the healthcare team
- Promote safe, evidence-based care in a collaborative, high-acuity clinical setting
