PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Colorado
• At least 1 year of recent PACU nursing experience
• Current BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and post-anesthesia monitoring skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced perioperative and surgical care environment
• Knowledge of PT/OT instructions for joint-replacement patients is preferred
• Comfort with bedside teaching and discharge education is preferred
• Dependable, flexible team player with a positive and engaged approach to patient care

PACU RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe pre-operative and post-anesthesia nursing care for adult surgical patients
• Monitor patients during Phase I and Phase II recovery, recognizing and responding to changes in condition
• Care for patients following total joint, sports medicine, foot and ankle, podiatry, hand, nerve, breast, plastic reconstruction, and general surgery procedures
• Perform focused assessments, vital-sign monitoring, pain and nausea management, and blood-glucose checks as indicated
• Prepare patients for transfer or discharge in accordance with clinical protocols
• Provide clear bedside education, including post-operative instructions and recovery expectations
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, operating room staff, and inpatient nursing teams to support continuity of care
• Maintain accurate documentation and promote a safe, compassionate, and efficient patient experience
