Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Battle Creek, Michigan

Join a 13-week travel nursing assignment as a Medical-Surgical RN in Battle Creek, MI, providing night-shift care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced Medical-Surgical and observation/ER overflow environment. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,950–$2,060
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks, with potential opportunities to extend
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Shift: 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours
  • Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
  • Typical Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6 on nights, with ratios subject to change based on patient volume and staffing
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Travelers may float to other Medical-Surgical and overflow units based on departmental needs
  • Holiday Coverage: Holiday shifts may be required; holiday time-off requests are not guaranteed

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

  • Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • At least 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical RN experience
  • Travel nursing experience strongly preferred; candidates with substantial permanent experience in a comparable setting may be considered
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications are preferred or may be required based on unit needs
  • Recent experience caring for patients with conditions such as CHF, abdominal pain, TIA, diabetes, and other complex medical diagnoses
  • Experience with electronic charting systems, preferably Epic
  • Ability to work effectively with RNs, LPNs, nursing assistants, and other members of the care team
  • Current influenza vaccination is required; medical exemption requests may be considered in accordance with assignment guidelines
  • Strong assessment, organization, communication, and prioritization skills

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in Medical-Surgical and observation/overflow settings
  • Perform ongoing nursing assessments and rapidly identify changes in patient condition
  • Support efficient patient throughput, including frequent admissions, discharges, and reassessments
  • Manage patients requiring rapid diuresis, telemetry monitoring, oxygen therapy, insulin protocols, wound care, drains, feeding tubes, central and peripheral lines, and other complex interventions
  • Administer medications, blood products, and treatments safely and accurately
  • Care for patients with cardiac, neurologic, renal, orthopedic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and behavioral health needs
  • Collaborate with providers, therapy services, respiratory care, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
  • Recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, activating rapid response or emergency resources when appropriate
  • Float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed while maintaining safe, organized, and patient-centered care
  • Educate patients and families and contribute to a positive care experience
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans in the electronic medical record
