Travel Nursing Job Details

- Shift: 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients, primarily neuroscience patients
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Floating: Required to other medical-surgical and telemetry areas, including potential COVID care units, based on operational needs
- Charting and Unit Systems: Epic, SBAR, and Pyxis
- Scrubs: Navy
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a compact state; pending licensure may be considered for submission
- At least 2 years of Registered Nurse experience, including a minimum of 1 year of direct medical-surgical nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience with at least 2 successfully completed contracts; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Current BLS certification
- Current NIH and NIHSS certifications
- ACLS certification preferred but not required
- Demonstrated experience caring for medical-surgical telemetry and neuroscience patients
- Strong telemetry nursing skills, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Successful completion of specialty-specific EKG testing before the assignment begins
- Ability to float within or near the assigned service area and work every other weekend
- Flu vaccination is required; approved medical or religious exemptions may be considered
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for a diverse adult and geriatric neuroscience population
- Monitor, assess, and manage patients with strokes, seizures, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological conditions
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and recognize changes in neurological and cardiac status
- Interpret telemetry rhythms and manage dysrhythmias according to established protocols
- Provide peripheral and central line care, PICC line management, feeding tube care, blood product administration, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway support
- Manage non-titrated cardiac and vasoactive drips and apply appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Collaborate with IV teams, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Document patient care accurately in Epic and communicate effectively using SBAR
- Respond appropriately to rapid response and code situations
- Float to other medical-surgical and telemetry units as needed to support safe patient care
- Complete required orientation, pre-start education, and compliance activities within designated timelines
