Travel Nursing Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN)

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,860–$1,960
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Assignment Length: 20 weeks
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6
- Patient Population: Medical-surgical and telemetry patients with varied diagnoses
- Holiday Requirement: At least one major holiday shift may be required during the assignment
- Additional Scheduling Information: Orientation is available on designated Mondays; limited time-off requests must be submitted with the application
Medical-Surgical Travel RN Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Virginia
- At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience caring for telemetry patients preferred
- Cerner experience preferred
- Ability to provide a complete work history and explain employment gaps exceeding 90 days
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
- Willingness to support students and new team members in a teaching-hospital environment
- Flexibility to float to a nearby sister campus when operational needs require
Med-Surg RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical and telemetry patients in an on-site hospital setting
- Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, responses to treatment, and changes in clinical status
- Care for patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, COPD, CHF, diabetes complications, ESRD, dementia, TIA or stroke, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, sepsis, and vascular conditions
- Administer medications and treatments safely according to established clinical standards
- Recognize clinical deterioration and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate providers
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, phlebotomy, EKG technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and continuity of care
- Maintain accurate electronic health record documentation and follow hospital policies and procedures
- Participate in a supportive learning environment and assume charge responsibilities after appropriate training
