Experienced CVICU nurses can provide high-acuity cardiovascular critical care in Peoria, Illinois, on a 13-week travel nursing contract with competitive weekly pay. Step into a fast-paced Adult Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at a Level I trauma center and care for complex cardiovascular and critically ill patients in a welcoming riverfront community known for its scenic Illinois River setting, vibrant arts and culture, and convenient central Illinois location.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,560–$2,700
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Healthcare Setting: Adult Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU); acute care; Level I trauma center
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, through January 11, 2027
- Nursing Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Shifts: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours guaranteed per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; Friday and Saturday nights
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic
- CVICU Profile: 20 private, monitored beds with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 based on patient acuity
CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of recent CVICU or cardiovascular intensive care nursing experience; 5 years is preferred
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license, or confirmation that the Illinois RN license application process has been initiated
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency caring for high-acuity cardiovascular and critically ill patients with minimal orientation
- Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation, patient assessment, critical-thinking, communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Ability to titrate vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, anticoagulant, and insulin infusions according to orders and protocols
- Ability to float to other levels of care and accept a full patient assignment when needed
CVICU Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive critical care nursing for post-cardiac surgery and critically ill cardiovascular patients, including CABG, valve procedures, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotid procedures, STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and TAVR patients
- Care for mechanically ventilated patients and patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, heated high-flow oxygen, or nitric oxide therapy
- Manage patients with IABPs, Impellas, Swan-Ganz catheters, ECMO, CRRT, external pacemakers, transcutaneous pacing, and transvenous pacing
- Assess and manage patients with PICCs, midlines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and radial or femoral arterial lines
- Interpret Philips cardiac monitoring and identify changes in cardiac rhythms and patient condition
- Titrate medications such as dopamine, dobutamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, phenylephrine, vasopressin, clevidipine, propofol, fentanyl, midazolam, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Collaborate with advanced practice providers, physicians, respiratory therapists, monitor technicians, patient care technicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Respond rapidly to changes in patient status while following established protocols, orders, and evidence-based practices
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and promote safe, compassionate, and organized patient care
