- Patient Ratio: Approximately 3:1 on the cardiac stepdown unit
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Call: None required
- Floating: PCU, other ICUs, and additional campuses as needed
- Charting: Epic
Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Connecticut
- At least 2 years of recent experience in cardiac stepdown, progressive care, PCU, or a comparable acute care specialty
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Experience caring for patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, renal or liver failure, post-cardiac arrest conditions, and gastrointestinal bleeding
- Proficiency with arterial line management, ventilated patient care, central line management, continuous IV sedation, ABG interpretation, and dysrhythmia management
- Ability to work in a high-acuity environment and float to related critical care units when needed
- Completion of required clinical onboarding and competency modules before the assignment begins
- One professional reference required
- Flu vaccination required
Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients on a cardiac stepdown and progressive care unit.
- Monitor, assess, and respond promptly to changes in cardiac and respiratory status.
- Manage patients with complex, multisystem conditions and elevated acuity.
- Interpret dysrhythmias and ABGs and initiate appropriate interventions within the Registered Nurse scope of practice.
- Provide care for ventilated patients and patients requiring continuous IV sedation.
- Perform central line care, arterial line monitoring, isolation precautions, and other critical care nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, nursing assistants, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic.
- Float to PCU and ICU units as needed while maintaining safe, evidence-based patient care.
- Support safe transitions of care, patient education, and discharge planning.
