Travel CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Columbia, South Carolina

Bring your critical care nursing expertise to a high-acuity Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in Columbia, South Carolina. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers experienced Registered Nurses the opportunity to care for complex adult cardiac and vascular patients while working alongside a multidisciplinary clinical team in a 12-bed unit. Nurses with strong post-cardiac surgery, advanced cardiac monitoring, and life-support device experience will thrive in this environment.

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,840–$1,940
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Assignment End Date: January 25, 2027
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Population: Adult cardiac, cardiothoracic, and vascular patients
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Unit Profile: Approximately 10 patients daily in a 12-bed CVICU
  • Orientation: 48 hours
  • Scrubs: Green scrubs

CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in South Carolina
  • At least 2 years of recent CVICU nursing experience
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • At least 1 year of experience using the Epic electronic medical record system
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to care for patients with a 1:2 assignment ratio
  • Strong competency with advanced cardiac monitoring, ventilator management, vasoactive medication titration, and critical care interventions

CVICU Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult cardiac, cardiothoracic, and vascular patients
  • Care for patients recovering from CABG, valve repair or replacement, aortic dissection procedures, carotid endarterectomy, lobectomy, mediastinoscopy, and other cardiothoracic surgeries
  • Monitor and manage patients requiring ECMO, CRRT or CVVHD, IABP, Impella, VAD support, Centrimag, and pulmonary artery catheters
  • Manage arterial lines, central lines, CVP monitoring, epicardial pacing wires, chest tubes, and other critical care devices
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases while responding to changes in patient condition
  • Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, and continuous sedation infusions according to established protocols
  • Provide ventilator, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, airway, and respiratory failure management
  • Administer blood products, perform infection prevention measures, and maintain isolation precautions
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response, radiology, rehabilitation, IV services, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Float to qualified units or campuses when requested and perform only duties supported by documented competencies
