Psychiatric RN Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
• Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week; every other weekend and holidays required
• Contract: 13 weeks, October 26, 2026–January 25, 2027

Registered Nurse (RN) Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent registered nursing experience, preferably in psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, or acute care settings
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Current, unrestricted Illinois Registered Nurse license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification with Advanced Physical Skills (APS) required
• BSN preferred, or equivalent years of nursing experience
• Demonstrated clinical competence, critical-thinking ability, and sound nursing judgment
• Ability to work effectively with adult and geriatric patients and members of a multidisciplinary behavioral health care team
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and assist with lifting or repositioning patients up to 25 pounds as needed

Psychiatric Nurse Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for psychiatric and behavioral health patients
• Monitor patients according to assigned risk and precaution levels, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment
• Identify changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team
• Administer and document medications accurately in accordance with nursing standards and established procedures
• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and revise plans of care based on ongoing assessments
• Conduct or support assigned therapeutic group activities
• Provide crisis intervention and emergency care when needed, using approved de-escalation and safety techniques
• Maintain patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and safety
• Complete timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation
• Coordinate nursing assignments and guide support personnel according to patient needs and staff competency
• Follow infection prevention, safety, contraband-monitoring, and quality-improvement practices
• Collaborate respectfully with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, patients, and families
• Participate in staff meetings, orientation, in-service education, and ongoing professional development
• Adapt to changing assignments while maintaining organized, patient-centered care
