Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Iowa
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, medication administration, and clinical judgment skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Willingness to complete required competency validation, background screening, and travel nurse onboarding documentation
• Commitment to safe, professional, and patient-centered nursing practice

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients on an acute-care medical-surgical unit
• Complete focused and comprehensive patient assessments, monitor clinical status, and promptly identify changes in condition
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established nursing standards and provider orders
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing plans of care
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and support staff
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge plans
• Maintain accurate, timely electronic health record documentation and provide thorough shift-to-shift handoffs
• Promote infection prevention, fall prevention, patient safety, and quality patient outcomes
