Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Alabama
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification before the start date
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and patient-care skills
• Cerner electronic medical record experience preferred

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients throughout the 12-hour day shift
• Assess patient conditions, monitor for changes, and promptly communicate clinical concerns
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to support positive patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
• Maintain compliance with infection prevention, safety, and hospital policies
