Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care – Clinton, Maryland

Join a 13-week travel nursing contract as a Cardiac Stepdown RN in Clinton, MD, providing expert care to medically complex adults and geriatric patients.

Bring your cardiac and critical care expertise to a dynamic Intermediate Care, Progressive Care, and ICU setting in Clinton, Maryland. This travel Registered Nurse opportunity is ideal for an experienced RN who enjoys caring for medically complex adult and geriatric patients while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. You will work primarily in cardiac stepdown and may float to the ICU, Emergency Department, and medical-surgical units as needed. Located in Prince George’s County, Clinton offers convenient access to Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, parks, shopping, and the greater National Capital Region.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,730–$1,820
  • Location: Clinton, Maryland, in Prince George’s County near Washington, D.C.
  • Healthcare Setting: Cardiac Intermediate Care/Stepdown and ICU
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 1, 2027
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and gastrointestinal/genitourinary conditions
  • Typical Assignment: Patient ratio of approximately 1:4; every other weekend required
  • Weekend Commitment: Six Saturday or Sunday shifts during the six-week scheduling period
  • Electronic Medical Record: Cerner

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland or a valid compact nursing license
  • At least 2 years of recent RN experience, including Intermediate Care, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Cardiac Stepdown, or ICU experience
  • Completion of at least one previous travel nursing assignment
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent experience with Cerner or comparable electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Strong cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Ability to successfully complete an EKG rhythm interpretation assessment with a minimum overall score of 80% and a perfect score on lethal rhythms
  • Demonstrated competency with ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, central lines, chest tubes, high-flow nasal cannula, noninvasive airway management, and non-titratable cardiac or vasoactive drips
  • Willingness to float to the ICU, Emergency Department, and medical-surgical units as needed
  • Compliance with required health screening, onboarding, and unit-specific education

Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to cardiac stepdown, progressive care, and critically ill patients during overnight shifts
  • Perform focused nursing assessments, monitor vital signs, and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Interpret cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias and promptly communicate significant findings
  • Manage patients requiring oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator support, and tracheostomy care
  • Administer medications and manage non-titratable cardiac, insulin, heparin, and vasoactive infusion protocols according to policy
  • Provide care for patients before and after cardiac catheterization and angiography, as well as patients recovering from myocardial infarction
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, wound care, and blood product administration
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and rapid response teams
  • Respond appropriately to changes in patient status and participate in rapid response or code team activities
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and promote a safe, supportive patient care environment
