Emergency Department Travel Nurse Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,000–$2,110
- Specialty: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Location: La Plata, Maryland
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36/48-hour scheduling option
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
- Daily Census: Approximately 130 patients
- Patient Population: All age groups, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Holidays as scheduled
- Call: No prescheduled call requirement
- Floating: May be required within specialty and scope of practice
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience preferred; candidates with 1 year of strong ED experience may be considered
- Active Maryland RN license or eligible Compact RN license at the time of submission
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications must be from the American Heart Association
- Community hospital experience required
- Strong emergency nursing assessment, triage, prioritization, and emergency response skills
- Experience caring for patients with complex medical, traumatic, behavioral health, and pediatric conditions
- Comfort working in a fast-paced Emergency Department with patient ratios of approximately 1:4 and floating within scope when needed
- First-time travel nurses are welcome with strong Emergency Department experience
- Flu vaccination is required
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients ranging from neonates and children to adults and older adults
- Perform rapid assessments, triage, reassessments, and timely escalation of changing patient conditions
- Manage a broad range of emergency presentations, including trauma, stroke, cardiac events, respiratory distress, overdose, behavioral health emergencies, seizures, and multisystem conditions
- Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, vasopressors, and procedural sedation as indicated
- Care for ventilated patients and support patients requiring BiPAP/CPAP, central lines, chest tubes, and continuous IV sedation
- Interpret dysrhythmias and 12-lead ECGs, monitor patients closely, and respond to clinical deterioration
- Initiate and maintain IV access, perform phlebotomy, obtain laboratory specimens, and assist with emergency procedures
- Apply isolation precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment while promoting patient and staff safety
- Support patients experiencing violent behavior, suicidal ideation, acute psychosis, or other behavioral health concerns using de-escalation practices
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, interpretation services, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
- Document care accurately in the electronic medical record and contribute to an organized, patient-centered Emergency Department workflow
