Apply for a PCU Registered Nurse travel contract in Albuquerque, New Mexico, caring for complex cardiac patients on a high-acuity progressive care unit. This on-site travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiovascular conditions in a 55-bed cardiac stepdown unit. Located in central Albuquerque, the area combines vibrant Southwestern culture, historic neighborhoods, beautiful high-desert scenery, and easy access to the Sandia Mountains.
PCU Travel Nurse Job Details
- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- End Date: January 25, 2027
- Unit: Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,700–$1,790
- Schedule: Four 12-hour night shifts per week, approximately 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Hours: Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4–5
- Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends or as needed
- Call: None
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling; block scheduling considered case by case
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, cardiac stepdown, or closely related acute-care nursing experience; 2 years preferred
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Mexico or a qualifying compact license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Cardiovascular nursing experience required
- Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients with cardiovascular diagnoses, including CHF and STEMI/NSTEMI
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Ability to float to like units within the nurse’s scope of practice as needed
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
PCU Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in a cardiac progressive care and stepdown setting
- Monitor telemetry and recognize and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms and patient condition
- Care for patients before and after cardiac catheterization, angiography, cardiac surgery, and myocardial infarction
- Manage and monitor cardiac drips, including titratable therapies within unit protocols
- Provide care for patients requiring BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, and other non-invasive airway support
- Perform central line, PICC, peripheral IV, chest tube, feeding tube, wound, and wound-vac care
- Administer blood products, IV medications, insulin protocols, heparin protocols, and procedural sedation monitoring as ordered
- Complete accurate assessments, documentation, medication administration, and care coordination in Epic
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, rapid response, and other interdisciplinary teams
- Support safe patient transitions, patient education, discharge planning, and evidence-based care practices
