LTAC Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Virginia
- At least 2 years of bedside clinical nursing experience
- Long-term acute care, progressive care, or critical care nursing experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
- Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate patient care while effectively collaborating with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
LTAC RN Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive nursing assessments within the required timeframe and develop individualized plans of care.
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Monitor patient progress, recognize changes in condition, and promptly communicate pertinent information to providers and nursing leadership.
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care updates accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and contribute to ongoing patient evaluations.
- Support rehabilitation goals and provide patient and family education based on identified healthcare needs.
- Initiate discharge planning upon admission and prepare patients and families for a safe transition of care.
- Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to LPNs, CNAs, and orienting staff.
- Promote patient and workplace safety by following infection prevention, safe-handling, fall-prevention, and environmental safety practices.
- Prioritize assignments, manage time effectively, maintain necessary supplies, and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Assume charge responsibilities after orientation, as requested, and pursue ongoing professional development.
