Emergency Room Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent emergency department nursing experience
- At least 1 year of critical care nursing experience
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for practice in Maine
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
- Ability to meet all required license, background, and travel assignment screening requirements
- Willingness and ability to serve in charge nurse and preceptor roles as needed
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and patient-care skills in a high-acuity emergency care environment
Emergency Department RN Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process throughout the emergency visit
- Assess patients upon admission and monitor changes in condition throughout their stay
- Administer IV medications, therapies, and blood products according to orders and established protocols
- Deliver patient and family education tailored to individual needs and conditions
- Accurately document assessments, nursing interventions, education, observations, and patient responses
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to support timely evaluation, treatment, and patient disposition
- Support emergency and chest pain care processes while maintaining patient safety and quality standards
- Assume charge nurse and preceptor responsibilities when assigned
