Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse license or Illinois RN license application in progress
• Current Basic Life Support certification
• Ability to provide safe, compassionate nursing care for adult patients with complex medical conditions
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, oxygen therapy, and heparin titration
• Willingness to float to comparable medical-surgical units as needed; no ICU or chemotherapy assignments required
• Strong communication, organization, clinical judgment, and teamwork skills

Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients with conditions including gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, osteomyelitis, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and comfort-care needs
• Assess patients, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate responses to treatment
• Administer medications and safely titrate heparin according to established protocols
• Monitor telemetry patients remotely and recognize changes in patient condition
• Manage oxygen therapy, including nasal cannula up to 6 liters and stable CPAP or BiPAP as ordered
• Perform or attempt peripheral IV starts and collaborate with available unit resources when additional support is needed
• Coordinate care with providers, patient care technicians, respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Document patient care accurately in Epic and provide thorough shift-to-shift handoff communication
• Participate in an approximately two-shift unit orientation and contribute to a positive, patient-focused care environment
