Make an immediate impact as a travel Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in Peoria, Illinois. This 13-week travel nursing assignment is ideal for an experienced CVICU nurse who is confident caring for complex cardiovascular and critically ill patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. You will work with advanced monitoring and life-support technologies while collaborating with an interdisciplinary critical care team.
Located in central Illinois along the Illinois River, Peoria offers a welcoming community, accessible urban amenities, riverfront attractions, and a convenient location for exploring the Midwest.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel Registered Nurse assignment
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- End Date: January 25, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,560-$2,700
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, typically 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; night-shift weekends are Friday and Saturday
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call Requirement: None
- Unit: 20-bed, private-room CVICU
- Patient Ratios: Generally 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 based on patient acuity
- Charting: Epic
- Orientation: Unit-specific orientation and precepted training
CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- At least 2 years of recent CVICU or cardiovascular critical care experience
- Strong experience caring for high-acuity cardiovascular and critically ill patients
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification preferred
- CCRN certification is a plus
- Proficiency interpreting cardiac rhythms and managing titratable vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, anticoagulant, and antiarrhythmic infusions
- Experience with arterial lines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, and advanced cardiac support equipment
- Ability to float to other levels of care and accept a full patient assignment as needed
- Excellent assessment, critical-thinking, communication, organization, teamwork, and time-management skills
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while following protocols and provider orders
CVICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-cardiac surgery and critically ill cardiovascular patients
- Care for patients with CABG, valve procedures, dissections, aneurysms, vascular procedures, carotid procedures, STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVR, and other complex cardiac conditions
- Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, CPAP, BiPAP, heated high-flow oxygen, and nitric oxide therapy
- Monitor and manage patients receiving IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz, ECMO, CRRT, external pacing, and other advanced interventions
- Assess and manage arterial lines, PICC lines, midlines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and temporary transvenous or transcutaneous pacemakers
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
- Titrate medications such as vasopressors, inotropes, sedatives, analgesics, insulin, heparin, and antiarrhythmics according to protocol and provider orders
- Perform detailed assessments, develop individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses to treatment
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other members of the critical care team
- Provide timely communication, thorough documentation, patient and family education, and compassionate support throughout the critical care experience
- Maintain patient safety, infection-prevention practices, and compliance with unit protocols
