Travel Labor & Delivery RN job in Durham, NC for an experienced nurse seeking a 13-week night-shift assignment in high-risk obstetric care. Join a collaborative High-Risk Perinatal team caring for diverse obstetric patients in a setting with approximately 350–450 deliveries per month, strong interdisciplinary support, and exposure to routine and complex maternal-newborn care.

- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour night shifts
- Shift Hours: Approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Scheduling: Open availability required; blocked scheduling is not available
- Patient Population: Neonates, adolescents, and adults
- Typical Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Documentation and Equipment: Epic, Obix fetal monitoring, Alaris IV pumps with PCA, and Omnicell
- Orientation: Facility orientation is provided, with biweekly start opportunities
Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or an active Compact RN license in hand
- At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not eligible for this assignment
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
- Recent Epic charting experience
- Proficiency with electronic fetal monitoring, labor management, high-risk obstetric care, and postpartum recovery
- Ability to care for patients receiving magnesium or insulin infusions, epidural anesthesia, PCA therapy, and other high-acuity treatments
- Ability to pass an onsite EKG/telemetry assessment
- Current influenza vaccination required; exemptions and declinations are not accepted
- One supervisory reference from within the past year required
Travel Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients experiencing spontaneous or induced labor, high-risk pregnancy, antepartum complications, and postpartum recovery.
- Perform triage and assessments, monitor maternal and fetal status, and recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
- Manage patients receiving magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, epidural anesthesia, PCA therapy, Pitocin, terbutaline, and other prescribed treatments.
- Assist with vaginal deliveries, including high-risk deliveries, newborn recovery, APGAR assessment, thermoregulation, identification, and initial newborn care.
- Circulate for cesarean sections and assist with D&C, D&E, cerclage, version procedures, and operating room recovery.
- Care for high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients, including those with PPROM, placenta previa, preeclampsia, diabetes, multiple gestation, and other complex conditions.
- Recognize and manage obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage, shock, eclampsia, abnormal fetal status, and suspected uterine rupture.
- Assist with hemorrhage interventions, including Jada and Bakri devices, blood product administration, and emergency response protocols.
- Provide couplet care, breastfeeding and lactation support, discharge education, newborn teaching, and family-centered communication.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, fetal monitoring, medications, procedures, and patient outcomes in Epic.
