PACU Travel Nurse Job Details

- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- End Date: February 15, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,940–$2,040
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
- Shift Times: Approximately 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with shifts rotating between opener and closer assignments
- Patient Population: Adults recovering from cardiac and vascular procedures
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1 during days and up to 1:2 during nights
- Charting: Epic electronic medical record
- Orientation: Approximately 40 hours
- Call: Weeknight and weekend call coverage may be required
PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
- Recent PACU, Phase I recovery, pre-operative, or post-operative nursing experience strongly preferred
- Experience with pre- and post-operative cardiac care required
- Level I trauma or outpatient experience preferred
- Current Registered Nurse license in Ohio or an active compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
- BLS certification required
- ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred or required according to assignment criteria
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Ability to complete Ohio fingerprinting and credentialing requirements promptly
- Two professional references required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Flu vaccination required unless medically exempt
PACU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive pre-operative assessments, medication reviews, history and physical reviews, and patient education
- Provide Phase I PACU care following cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and other complex procedures
- Monitor airway status, respiratory function, hemodynamics, neurological status, pain, and recovery from anesthesia
- Care for patients following CABG, AAA repair, TAVR, EVAR, angiograms, ablations, pulmonary decortication, and lower-extremity vascular bypass procedures
- Recognize and manage dysrhythmias, cardiac arrest situations, changes in blood pressure, and other post-procedural complications
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, CVP monitoring, pulmonary artery catheters, chest tubes, drains, wound vacs, and other advanced equipment as indicated
- Administer emergency medications, IV vasopressors, anticoagulants, antiarrhythmics, analgesics, blood products, and other prescribed therapies
- Obtain and interpret 12-lead ECGs and arterial blood gas results within the scope of practice
- Perform IV starts, phlebotomy, catheterization, line care, and other essential nursing procedures
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, response to treatment, and transitions of care in Epic
